What is LPG?
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a liquid composed of hydrocarbons extracted from natural gas and oil. Propane is commonly used to heat homes, but butane is also available for use in indoor portable heaters.
It is a colourless, low-carbon, efficient fuel that boils at low temperatures and is stored in pressurised steel tanks or petrol bottles. Calor Gas is a well-known supplier of LPG in gas bottles, and LPG boilers are occasionally referred to as Calor Gas boilers.
How does an LPG boiler work?
LPG boilers work similarly to natural gas and oil boilers. They burn fuel to heat your mains water supply, which is then used to heat your radiators and provide hot water to your taps. Mains gas boilers can be converted to use LPG.
The primary distinction between mains gas boilers and LPG boilers is that LPG fuel must be delivered to your home and stored in a tank, which is typically located in your garden.
